Wednesday's Writing Workout!

Original image here.

On the weekends, prompts keep my creativity warmed up so I don’t “pull a muscle” on Monday morning. During the week, prompts jump-start my writing routine. Consider using your own characters and settings for these prompts. You might come up with dazzling new ideas for your WiP! All you’ll need for these exercises is your writing materials and an open mind. Remember to drink lots of water and stretch!
Start it up!
Exercise 1
What if this was a leap year (next year is!) and you were born on February 29? How would this effect your birthday celebrations?
Ramp it up!
Exercise 2
Pretend you’re related to an infamous historical figure. Write a journal entry describing a day in your life with this wicked relative.
Burn it up!
Exercise 3: from Writer’s Digest
Let the pen lead you–literally. Create a story in which an author is led on a strange and comical quest by his or her trusty pen that comes to life one day.

Cool it down.
Exercise 4
Have any Starburst candies or jelly beans on hand? Eat one flavor at a time and write about the first thing that comes to mind.
Every Wednesday I post prompts and exercises for your “writing workout” so keep checking back! Happy writing!!!

what a great story concept - a teen related to some infamous figure like Jesse James who haunts him and gives him social tips. :)

Ooh, candy! Just so long as they're normal jelly beans and not Bertie Bots Every Favor beans... That could end badly. Perhaps some good descriptions, but a bit dangerous for the palette :)

Oh my gosh...I think I'll do the one about the infamous relative. Hey, I just noticed you have me on your side bar! Thanks! ((hug)) :)

Now I am determined to give one of my characters the ubiquitous birthday of February 29!

Laura- That's a good idea you have! It would be interesting to be related to someone infamous!

Bluestocking- LOL, I considered putting those! Santa used to put those in my siblings and my stockings. We had such fun eating them... and spitting them out, haha.

Raquel- You're welcome! I'm very excited for you and your book's upcoming release!

Tana- The mysterious "T" is revealed! You have such a pretty name! My cousin used to date a girl born on Feb. 29. She would celebrate her birthday on the 28 AND on March 1, haha!

Nicole- Mmmm, skittles!!!

Jolene- Thanks a bunch and you're welcome!

Sophia- Thanks very much for saying so! I appreciate your kind comment. :)

Carla- I know, isn't that fun? I wouldn't mind going on adventures with my pen or pencil! Oh, wait, I guess that is what I do when I'm writing, lol.

Summer- Definitely give it a go! Have fun! :)

Shannon- Yay, I'm so happy you use these for your students! I hope they have fun with them!

Thanks for the fun exercises, Laura!

Melissa- The poor kid! Kids aren't very creative sometimes. That's an unoriginal way to tease a leap day baby, lol.

Stina- Thanks! I'm glad youlike them. I hope you try out the exercises and come up with something amazing!

Jen- I love Jelly Bellys! I also love the Starburst jelly beans. YUM!

Elizabeth- You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a great week and enjoy the weekend!
