Monday Quote Day!

“The writing is first with me. It’s like when you fall in love. You make time for that person … whether it’s five minutes after work, or an extra lunch hour, or you don’t sleep until 3 every morning.” ~Hazel Dixon-Cooper
“Stay in touch with the first impulses that made you start writing–the pleasure of it and the interest of the story, and not so much the professional side of things.” ~Jeffrey Eugenides
“You want to begin by creating a villain. Remember that dirtbag who dumped you right before senior prom when you’d already bought a dress to match his tuxedo? Use that S.O.B.!” ~Dorothy Allison
“The difference is whether or not the keyboard imprint on your forehead is from using it as a pillow or smacking your head on it.” ~Christina Williams
“Laziness is when you sit on the couch for two hours and eat potato chips. Writer’s block is when you sit in a chair staring at the computer for two hours before relocating to the couch to eat potato chips.” ~Rusty Stroupe
“All books are divisible into two classes–the books of the hour and the books of all time.”  ~John Ruskin
“This will never be a civilized country until we expend more money for books than for chewing gum.” ~Elbert Hubbard
“We’ve heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.” ~Robert Wilensky
“You must create another language and nourish it for years and years with what you have loved, with what you have lost, with what you will never find again.” ~George Seferis
“Sit down and put down everything that comes into your head and then you’re a writer. But an author is one who can judge his own stuff’s worth, without pity, and destroy most of it.” ~Colette
Happy Monday and happy writing, zigzaggers!!!

These are great and always leave me completely inspired. I recently made a few of my own and they've been working for me.

Writing is like eating sour patch kids. Some moments are sweet, others sour. All delicious.

Some novels are made to be brilliantly edited, others are made to just be brilliant.

That last quote by Colette is so true. Very painful, but true just the same.
