13 Spooktacular Quotes on Writing! Part 1

Night time is really the best time to work. All the ideas are there to be yours because everyone else is asleep.
{Catherine O'Hara}

Writing is easy: All you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.
{Gene Fowler}
You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.
{Jack London}
Writing is so difficult that I feel that writers, having had their hell on earth, will escape all punishment hereafter.
{Jessamyn West}
I get up in the morning, torture a typewriter until it screams, then stop.
{Clarence Budington Kelland}
All writers are vain, selfish and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives lies a mystery. Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.
{George Orwell}
Ink and paper are sometimes passionate lovers, oftentimes brother and sister, and occasionally mortal enemies.
{Terri Guillemets}
The reason for evil in the world is that people are not able to tell their stories.
{Carl Gustav Jung}
When in doubt, have a man come through the door with a gun in his hand.
{Raymond Chandler}
The sinister thing about writing is that it starts off seeming so easy and ends up being so hard.
{L. Rust Hills}
Writing is both mask and unveiling.
{E.B. White}
Coleridge was a drug addict. Poe was an alcoholic. Marlowe was killed by a man whom he was treacherously trying to stab. Pope took money to keep a woman's name out of a satire then wrote a piece so that she could still be recognized anyhow. Chatterton killed himself. Byron was accused of incest. Do you still want to be a writer–and if so, why?
{Bennett Cerf}
Being an author is having angels whisper in your ear–and devils, too.
{Terri Guillemets}
When you were a child on Halloween, what was your favorite candy to receive? Is it still your favorite now? Is that what you buy for trick-or-treaters?
I wanted any kind of chocolate candy bar, especially Snickers and Kit Kat! Those are still two of my favorites. And yes, I bought those for tonight’s trick-or-treaters! I also bought Take 5, regular and peanut M&Ms, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Wait, did I eat all of it already…?!? ;)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Some of these are so true, it's scary. Fortunately blood hasn't seeped from my pores yet.

I had to buy more halloween candies because my 11 year old ate the ones I had. :P

The quote from Jack London has long been a motto, but the one from Jung rings so true.

Favorite candy? Chocolate, any kind of chocolate.

Fun twist for quote day! I loved reese's peanut butter cups. Loved them. But now they are too sweet and I like chocolate with more cacao content. Ah well.

Fun post! The quotes are awesome. And to answer your question, I'm looking forward to eating as many Almond Joys as I can find. I tell myself the almonds make them healthy. Happy Halloween!

Laura- I know, it's so true it's scary!

Christina- Yum, I like Heath Blizzards from Dairy Queen!

Stina- No blood here either! But I guess we'll see when I'm old and gray and my writing career has been longer than half my life, LoL.

Emy- It sure is. Happy Halloween to you, too!

Bish- Mmm, I agree. Chocolate is the best at Halloween!

Bluestocking- Any kind of chocolate is still good! Except white chocolate. That's not even chocolate so I don't get how the name is in there!

E.R.- Hello and welcome to Wavy Lines! Thanks! I had fun finding all the quotes. And how you justify eating Almond Joys is how I am about any kind of chocolate bar with peanuts in it, LoL! Thanks for stopping by and commenting and have a happy Halloween!

Kelley- I love all kinds of M&Ms! Happy Halloween to you, too!

Kathi- Thanks and have a happy Halloween!

I only buy the best candy for trick-or-treaters. I mean what if I have leftovers? I wouldn't want to just throw them out.

LOVE all of those quotes. And Happy Halloween to you as well!

Heh, heh, the Raymond Chandler one gets to me, because in a recent WIP, when I was stuck, I blew up a train.

Turns out, it was the best thing I could have done!

Go Jung! Meanwhile, really young bloggers are wondering "What the heck is a typewriter?"

Popcorn balls! Yes, I'm old enough I remember when it was safe to eat those from strangers. These days, I am all about the Mellowcreme Pumpkins.

LOVE that you themed the quotes, Laura! True story: went through class today lamenting that it was Monday but when I opened my laptop, I remembered I'd see your quotes :) Haha.

Laura Marcella said...

Faith- I haven't had either of those candies in awhile! I liked getting them in my trick-or-treat bag, too. :)

Tara- LoL, I hear ya about the demon. And I'm not that much of a baby anymore and knew of those candies when I was younger too! My sibs and I weren't allowed to have the fake cigarettes, but there was always a neighborhood kid who was!

Southpaw- Exactly! That's my line of thinking, too. ;)

Angie- Thanks and I hope you're having a fun night!

Dianne S.- LoL, I love it! Raymond Chandler knew what he was talking about.

Jolene- Thanks! I hope you're having a fun Halloween night. :)

Diane W.- Hahaha, you're probably right! I didn't think about that when I included the quote, LoL. It's sad how we have to be so vigilant about accepting candy on Halloween night, isn't it? Now you shouldn't take homemade anything anymore :(

Saumya- Thanks! It was really fun finding these. Yay, so glad these quotes brightened you day! Hope you have a great week! :)

I love these Halloween-themed quotes!!! My favorite candy as a kid was a classic - just a regular mini Hershey bar. LOVED THEM. Also, Krackle. I still love crunchy chocolate!

Laura Marcella said...

Rachna- Yup, that on is a classic!

Margo- Thank you! Hope you're having a good week!

Alex- I hear ya! And you're very welcome. I too think it's thrilling to feature my blog buddies' new releases! According to my blog's stats that page gets hit often each day, so hopefully it's helping everyone's sales a little bit. :)

Julie- I love Krackle, too! I always get a bag of the Hershey's miniatures at Christmas time to put out in a little dish. I did that for Halloween this year, too! :)

Michelle Teacress said...

My favorite treat was Mounds. :)

I like your Halloween themed quotes!
