P is for Persistence

The main difference between successful writers and unsuccessful writers is persistence.
{James Scott Bell}
If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.
{Martin Luther King Jr.}
Few things are impossible to diligence and skill. Great works are performed not by strength, but perseverance.
{Samuel Johnson}
You must keep sending work out; you must never let a manuscript do nothing but eat its head off in a drawer. You send that work out again and again, while you're working on another one. If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success–but only if you persist.
{Isaac Asimov}
Continuous effort–not strength or intelligence–is the key to unlocking our potential.
{Liane Cordes}
It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.
{Albert Einstein}
Forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won't. Habit is persistence in practice.
{Octavia Butler}
A writer is a writer because even when there is no hope, even when nothing you do shows any sign of promise, you keep writing anyway.
{Junot Díaz}
The bottom line is not how fast you make your dream come true, but how steadily you pursue it.
{Sarah Ban Breathnach}
Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrecorded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent.
{Calvin Coolidge}
What is your favorite quote about persistence?
Happy Wednesday and happy writing, Zigzaggers!

Oh this is fabulous! One of my favourite quotes about persistence is, "Fall down seven times, get up eight."

These are all wonderful quotes. I love that one from Asimov. He was SUCH a prolific writer!

Isaac Asimov is the MAN. I truly believe that too. If you have any small amount of talent, you'll be rewarded somehow - maybe not always in the way you'd hoped, but still...

The Sarah Ban Breathnach one and the Martin Luther King Jr. one especially spoke to me, though all of the quotes were very inspiring! Thanks -- I needed to hear some of this today!

These are nice, Laura...I like the idea that steady is better than fast when it comes to making dreams come true.

This is so true: "It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer." {Albert Einstein}

Some would also equate that persistence to hard work! I love Einstein!

Laura, it's been so much fun watching your blog grow and grow. And you're always an inspiration. Keep it up. I know you will reach your goals; you're doing it all right. I can't wait to read your first published book, and the rest as well. Right now, my day job keeps me from being as persistent with my book stuff, but my prayer is that God will help me find a way to make those spaces happen, in His time. :)
