Revisited: L is for Lapidary

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
{Sir Richard Steele}

MorgueFile.com
A lapidary is an artisan who cuts, polishes, and engraves gems.

Your novels, stories, and anything you write is your gem. Like you unearth rubies and emeralds, you expose the story buried deep in your heart and imagination. Once you reveal it on paper, you spend a great deal of time and energy carefully cutting excess descriptions, scenes, and characters that don’t move the story along. You rewrite scenes, write brand new scenes, combine characters, fill plot holes. You polish your prose, shaping it into the most dazzling form it can be to catch the eye of the best agents and publishers and, ultimately, readers.

You, dear writers, are the artisans and caretakers of something that is precious, valuable, and unfortunately lacking for too many people in our world: Literacy.

The more that you read, the more things you will know! The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!
{Dr. Seuss}
