A is for Art

What am I doing for the A to Z Blogging Challenge? My theme this year is The Writer’s Inspiration! Each post will be a sentence or two on how a writer got the idea for one of his or her books. Your job is to guess both the book and the author in the comments. The post title is rarely a clue.

What’s in it for you? Snail mail! I have a fun, goodie-filled package for the winner. If there’s a tie, I’ll write the names on paper, put in a bowl, and have my husband pick one. You have one day to give your answer in the comments; I’ll reveal each day’s book and author on the following day. For each correct answer you’ll receive a point. Whoever receives the most points is the winner. I hope you know your books and authors! Have fun!!!

The Writer’s Inspiration: During a dreary vacation in the Scottish Highlands, this author was painting a map that suddenly seemed to come alive with imaginary pirates. He set aside his paintbrush and picked up a pen to write.

What is the novel and who is the author?

April is National Poetry Month! If blogging from A to Z isn't enough of a challenge for you, check out Robert Lee Brewer's Poem-A-Day Challenge.

What a great idea for a theme. I have little idea, but I am going to guess Robert Louis Stevenson and Treasure Island :).

No idea. But I'd love to visit the Scottish Highlands, dreary or not!

J.L.'s comment made me chuckle.

I have no idea. I stink at this stuff, but can't wait to learn from you all month long!

I would say treasure island is a good guess. Not sure myself though. Cool idea.

I don't know and don't want to cheat and write what others guessed. LOL

I thought Tolkien, but I'm probably wrong.

It's always fascinating to learn what inspires writers, especially if I've read the novel. Not sure on this one.

I've got to go with R L Stevenson and Treasure Island.

What a great idea for a theme!

Ack! I don't know! yet another book to add to the TBR pile I suppose. Cool theme!

I think everyone else has already guessed it. My second guess would have been Peter Pan, though I believe Barrie started with the idea of fairies first.

Fun theme!

I agree with the Treasure Island guesses. Robert Louis Stevenson. And what a great read that was!

Interesting contest. I have no clue on this one. And who doesn't love poetry? Good luck to all who guess!

Stevenson, Treasure Island, but many others above me have guessed this and if they're correct and even if they're wrong, I won't be winning the snail mail challenge, but I love this idea. So creative. And I love the multi-color striped zebra on your home page. A horse of a different color indeed!

Best regards.

And what a brilliant idea for a theme! Should get you lots of visits and comments!

Hi Laura...How very clever to include a contest and prizes in your AtoZ Challenge. I think Natashas...comment #1, set the standard and most agree...I do.

I did know about April being National Poetry Month...alas, I am not a poet on purpose, so I'll stick with 'fiction from forgotten fotos' theme.

I am piggy backing from AJ's comments...that's where I found your blog and Letter A link. Hope you will have a chance to stop by and read some historical fiction insipired by my collection of vintage photos.

Peter Pan? Author don't know.

Great idea for a challenge. I'll be terrible at it unless you reference something from Stephen King. Then I've got a chance.

I don't know but I love the theme of your posts. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Even a boring dreary day.

now you are presenting an additional challenge - bravo.

I'm thinking maybe Treasure Island by Stevenson.

My first thought was the author of Peter Pan. Pretty sure I'm wrong. This is a nice way to keep people on their toes Laura.

Hello to the regular followers of Wavy Lines, welcome to the new visitors, and thanks for following Wavy Lines to the new followers!

You're all doing very well! Let me clear up a few discrepancies you may have: It doesn't matter how many people have guessed before you! As long as you guess before the next day's letter is posted (6:00 am EST/USA time), you'll get a point for guessing the correct book and writer of the clue.

These are all real inspirations the writers had, so some of them aren't going to be as obvious as others. I didn't decide how these writers got their inspirations! Searching the internet and asking a friend is totally okay. Good luck and I hope you're having fun!!

Happy A to Z-ing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines
